About
Simon Rankin is a visual artist and printmaker living and working on Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung country (Coburg) in Melbourne/Naarm. His practice centres on screen printing, with a particular focus on diagrammatic visual elements—typography, symbols, grid structures, maps, and flow charts—rendered through layered processes.
Simon is a member of Troppo Print Studio, where he works regularly, and a founding member of Pavement Print Studio. He has printed in studios internationally and continues to engage with collaborative print communities both locally and globally.
His picture-making embraces improvisational processes within predefined constraints, with works typically produced in series that explore formal and material relationships. A recurring thread is the reuse and recycling of imagery—motifs of discarded elements and re-digested visuals.
Simon's work has been widely exhibited and is held in numerous private collections. He also teaches in the Graphic Design programs at RMIT Brunswick.
